Hello! This page and its related pages contain my digital portfolio of teaching development and experiences as a graduate student at Michigan State University. MSU offers a Certificate in College Teaching, the requirements for which are specified below. I have a passion for teaching, and through this experience I have learned more about the ways in which I can be a better educator. On this website you will find information about my experience in a seminar about teaching in the discipline of philosophy, my perspectives and experiences with what makes an effective learning environment, technology in the classroom, and teaching in the larger university context. You will also find a copy of my Teaching Philosophy Statement, and a description of a pedagogical project assessing the effectiveness of mapping as a tool for comprehending Socratic dialogues.
The University Graduate Certification in College Teaching (CCT), an initiative of the Michigan State University Graduate School in partnership with MSU colleges, helps graduate students and postdocs organize, develop, and document their teaching experiences. Through professional development activities – workshops or seminars, coursework in disciplinary teaching methods, a mentored teaching project – participants will build and consolidate their preparation for college and university teaching. The program culminates in an eportfolio that will help participants prepare for academic job interviews and plan for their professional development as early career faculty.
